Where to Get Pediatric Vaccines for ‘Vaccination Awareness Day’ in Chicago – NBC Chicago

Chicago Public Schools classes have been canceled for “Vaccination Awareness Day” Friday so that both parents and children can get their COVID-19 shots.

The move was made after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued an emergency clearance for Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 5 to 11.

“To ensure that all eligible students have the opportunity to receive the vaccine as soon as possible, CPS schools will be closed for Vaccination Day on Friday, Nov. 12,” CPS said in a statement.

According to officials, teachers and employees are given paid days off. City workers in Chicago will also be given two hours of paid leave to get COVID-19 vaccines for themselves and their families.

The district said children ages 5 to 11 are eligible for a $100 Visa gift card if they receive the two-dose vaccine. City employees will also get two hours of paid leave on Friday if they get the chance for themselves or their family.

Parents and guardians seeking an appointment should contact their healthcare provider, local pharmacy, or visit http://www.chi.gov/YouthVax for other vaccination options for anyone between the ages of 5 and 11.

Most vaccination sites require parents to accompany the child. Exceptions include CPS vaccination clinics in schools, health centers in schools, and some health care providers, with signed consent forms from a parent or guardian.
