ESCANABA – Camp Quality Michigan, with the support of the UP Lions Club, will this year provide a virtual camp experience for UP and Wisconsin children who are currently in treatment or who have previously been treated for cancer or who also have other chronic blood conditions. like their brothers and sisters. Camp week is July 12-16. The camp theme this year is THRIVE. Organizers take children on an adventure with daily themes such as Creativity, Humor, Trust, Gratitude and Zest through the use of imagination, fun and lots of enthusiasm. Each child is given a backpack filled with the items needed to participate in the week of camp, along with other fun Camp Quality items. We will be using the ZOOM and FlipGrid platforms to communicate with the kids throughout the week. Traditionally, we hold a week-long camp on site, but thanks to COVID, we will provide a safer option for our families.
There will be a personal kick-off event at Bay Cliff Health Camp on June 19 (under all state and national COVID guidelines). This gives the campers, siblings and families the chance to meet Camp Quality staff, meet other campers and see the beautiful camp facility where we plan to hold future family events and a week long camp.
Camp Quality is a nationwide organization with approximately 21 camps across the United States. Camp Quality Michigan was the second camp to start, with our first camp being held in Boyne City Michigan in 1987. We offer week-long camping experiences for children with cancer or blood disorders and their siblings, along with various family events throughout the year. All our programs are offered to families free of charge. Camp Quality is fully funded by fundraising events and generous donors such as the UP Lions.
To register for the virtual camp and kickoff event, please visit the Camp Quality Michigan website at: https://www.campqualityusa.org/mi/ and click on the THRIVE logo on the home page.
