THE DESANTIS OFFICE RETURNS TO THE MAYOR’S QUESTION ‘WHERE IS OUR GOVERNOR?’

Democratic Mayor Jerry Demings of Florida’s Orange County criticized DeSantis at a news conference on Tuesday amid mounting COVID cases, suggesting that residents of the state “should be outraged” that DeSantis was not in front of the media during the peak.

“Our residents, all Florida residents, should be outraged, and they should be asking the question, ‘Now, where’s our state? Where’s our governor?'” Demings said. “Where is Ron DeSantis now? When was the last time you saw the governor give a press conference on COVID-19?”

Others, including Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, DN.Y., took to social media to criticize DeSantis, accusing him of “inexplicably missing out.”

“Hasn’t Gov. DeSantis been inexplicably missing for 2 weeks,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote in a tweet during a visit to Florida. “If he’s around I’d like to say hello. His social media team seems to be posting weeks old photos.”

“In the meantime, maybe I can help with local organization,” added Ocasio-Cortez, who was seen without a mask drinking and dining outside in the Sunshine State. “People here are very receptive.”

MSNBC host Joy Reid also lashed out at DeSantis, tweeting, “A governor, who doesn’t rule in a crisis; and instead sunbathing on his belly on vacation. @GovRonDeSantis is Ted Cruzes’ Nero.”

DeSantis Press Secretary Christina Pushaw responded to Reid, adding photos of DeSantis’ daily schedule and asking, “Have you ever thought that you’re one of the reasons no one trusts the media?”

DeSantis communications officer Kyle Lamb also responded to critics on Twitter who questioned whether DeSantis was on vacation: “FYI, [DeSantis] is not on vacation. Literally no one from our office has said he is.
