CINCINNATI (FOX19) – A nonprofit organization, The Heart of Gold Memorial Fund, is giving back to Cincinnati, including a partnership with Mercy Health.
For example, the $10,000 from Mercy Health helped Heart of Gold improve logistics to accelerate test results at fundraising events. Fowling Warehouse is the site of a Bengals Watch Party for Heart of Gold’s October fundraiser, and a mobile mammography van allows people to pre-register for a mammogram.
“They help by waiting days to see if they have a problem. It saves several hours. It’s a huge help, and we love being able to specify what we give our money to and help those in need,” said Event Coordinator Bryan Peters.
In memory of Tim Peters, who died of heart disease at age 50, the Heart of Gold Memorial Fund was established to help people with heart disease and cancer.
“We probably started this eight years ago after my father passed away. We wanted to find a way to contact him and keep his memory alive,” says event coordinator Nick Peters.
According to the Peters family, Tim Peters’ generosity was always seen as a coach when Nick was in grade school.
Heart of Gold is part of the nonprofit’s name, according to Nick and Bryan, who said their father always had a heart of gold.
In partnership with Camp Joyful Hearts, the Heart of Gold Memorial Fund plays an important role in sending children with heart conditions to week-long camps.
“The Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Heart Institute, we were able to contact them and we were able to donate about $10,000 last year,” said Nick Peters.
The Heart of Gold Memorial Fund says it will continue to plan two to three major events a year.
