ORANGE COUNTY, Florida – The delta variant proved that COVID-19 was much more of a threat to children than it was in the beginning.
That is why pediatrician for infectious diseases Dr. Kenneth Alexander said parents should have their children aged 5 to 11 vaccinated as soon as injections are available to them.

“We need to get over that kind of magic number of 80%, and that’s based on how contagious this is,” Alexander said. “And kids are a big part of that.”

The age group makes up about 9% of Orange County’s population, but accounts for nearly 20% of all COVID-19 cases.

Alexander said we need to teach kids that vaccinating is part of growing up and protecting the community.
