CHARITY Cudeca and TRE radio are teaming up to launch an ambitious 72-hour fundraiser from November 26 to 28 to raise €1 million to create the first-ever children’s palliative care center in Spain.
The Children in Need style flash fundraiser, called One in a Million and launched in honor of Cudeca founder Joan Hunt, will see the community on the Costa del Sol work together to hold fundraising events and donate on the charity’s website .
To achieve their ambitious goal, Cudeca and TRE have also enlisted the help of corporate sponsors, who have generously pledged to double the donations from the public.
The money will be used to create the first-ever palliative care unit in a hospice for children and teens in Spain.
The money raised will not only allow for hospitalization, but also the organization and training of a team of professionals to provide home care, day care and inpatient care for children and teenagers suffering from life-limiting conditions.
The idea for the campaign and center came about to create a lasting legacy for Cudeca founder Joan Hunt, who passed away earlier this year.
TRE President Martin Nathan came up with the idea of doing something to honor Joan’s life, and joined forces with Cudeca to carry out her wishes to create a center for palliative care for children.
Martin told Euro Weekly News: “I got involved because TRE has always supported Cudeca. When Joan died I thought she was one in a million and decided to create a one in a million campaign to honor her.”
He added: “Joan wanted her house next to the hospice to be converted into a center and we thought it could become a palliative care unit.
Martin is now calling on everyone to get involved to reach the €1 million goal by donating on the charity’s website, saying: “Everyone will benefit in the province of Malaga.”
He added: “This is about children and it is our version of Children in Need. They are children who need palliative care.
“Everyone should not only give themselves, but also involve their friends.”
