EastEnders star Jake Wood has appealed after his friend’s child died of cancer.
Jake – who played Max Branning in the BBC One soap – shared a link to a fundraiser for Alice’s Arc, a childhood cancer charity.
Jake’s friend Ceri lost his son Hugh to a rare form of sarcoma called “rhabdomyosarcoma” on September 18.
Jake captioned the post, “Please help if you can. My friend @ceridavis83 lost his son Hugh to this terrible disease and is now raising money in his name. Thank you.’
Jake also shared the message from the Alice’s Arc account, which reads:
“This is Hugh Menai-Davis. He lost his life to rhabdomyosarcoma on Saturday, September 18, having been diagnosed 11 months earlier. He had recently relapsed and was just starting his first cycle of VIT chemotherapy. He died suddenly. His parents are now raising money for Alice’s Arc on behalf of Hugh. His father will run the London Marathon for Hugh on Sunday, October 2, 2021. They have already raised over £6K in 48 hours.
“You may have noticed that three children died of rhabdomyosarcoma in the UK last weekend. This has been happening for years. How long must this go on? How many young children have to lose their lives to this aggressive cancer? How many families will have to live with this devastating loss for the rest of their lives? IT HAS TO CHANGE. More needs to be invested in research.’
The Just Giving fundraiser entitled ‘In Memory of Hugh Menai-Davis’ has already raised more than £12,000.
