11 children have lost their lives due to cancer this year

As 11 children have died from cancer this year and 81 children are battling this disease, BSP Financial Group Limited has donated $15,000 to the Walk on Walk Strong Kids Fiji Foundation to support these children.

According to WOWS Kids Fiji, research shows that an average of 20 new childhood cancers are reported in Fiji each year and that most children with cancer come from families in need of financial and other support.

BSP Country Head Haroon Ali says their donation will go to ensure these children have access to their treatment and receive much-needed support on their journey to remission and recovery.

Ali says their support for WOWS has exceeded $150,000 from 2010 to date.

WOWS Kids Foundation co-founder Sina Kami welcomed the support of BSP, which arrived as a timely Christmas present for deserving children in the struggle of a lifetime.

Kami says it is challenging to maintain their services to the children and their families during this time of the pandemic.

She says the WOWS team is committed to providing some relief to these families and to taking better care of their sick children.

Kami says the sad reality is that a large number of their childhood cancer cases reach the pediatric oncology department in advanced stages where survival rates are low.
